Optic Mount Guide: Red Dot & Scope Mounts by Footprint

The right mount depends on your optic’s footprint (for red dots) or tube diameter (for scopes), plus the height you need on your rifle. Find your optic below.

Aimpoint ACRO / Steiner MPS

The ACRO footprint is used by the Aimpoint ACRO P-2, Steiner MPS and Holosun 509T/EPS with the right plate. Pick a height: absolute co-witness (about 1.41″) or lower 1/3 (about 1.57″) on an AR-15.

Aimpoint Micro T-1 / T-2 / H-2 footprint

The Aimpoint Micro footprint is the most common for compact rifle red dots, including the Aimpoint T-1/T-2/H-2, Holosun 403/503/515 and Sig Romeo5.

Trijicon RMR / SRO footprint

RMR-footprint mounts hold the Trijicon RMR and SRO and many Holosun 407C/507C/508T optics on a rifle or as an offset dot.

Risers

Picatinny risers raise a red dot or magnifier to the right height for your stock and head position.

Mount height basics

On a flat-top AR-15, absolute co-witness puts the dot level with your iron sights (about 1.41″ to the center of the optic). Lower 1/3 co-witness sits a little higher (about 1.57″) and is popular for a more heads-up position. LPVOs typically use a 1.54″ to 1.93″ mount.
